WHAT: Fundraising concert featuring Michael Allen Harrison, benefitting Salvation Army Youth and Music Programs in Gresham

WHERE: The Salvation Army Gresham Corps Community Center, 473 SE 194th Ave., Portland, OR  97233.

WHY:  Music programs continue to shrink and disappear from schools across the community due to lack of funding.  The Salvation Army strives to keep music in the lives of kids whose passion lies with it.  Additionally, kids need a safe place to play, learn, and grow.  In order to keep these programs going and filling the emotional, physical, and learning gaps, The Salvation Army needs support from the community.  For several years, Michael Allen Harrison has performed a concert for the Gresham Corps (church) and for its youth and music programs.

(Gresham, OR) October 15, 2012- Far too often, music and arts are one of the first things to be cut when money gets tight.  At The Salvation Army Gresham Center for Worship and Service, this is not the case.  In fact, music is encouraged and supported through various music programs and partnerships with musicians in the community.  On Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012, join The Salvation Army for a night on the town with "Michael Allen Harrison Appearing at Club 1865" at 7pm, with hors d'oeuvres starting at 6:15pm, at the Gresham Corps located at 194th and Stark in East Portland.
 
"Michael Allen Harrison Appearing at Club 1865," which benefits the youth and music programs at the Gresham Salvation Army, will feature a concert by world renowned pianist Michael Allen Harrison as well as a special performance with Michael and several students in The Salvation Army's Gresham Music Academy program.  Michael will accompany and direct students in the Academy's Youth Choir and Jr. Worship Team.  Other student groups performing include the Gresham Corps Youth Band, the "Glee" group, and the Gresham Bluegrass band. 

The event will include the auctioning off of a private concert opportunity with Michael Allen Harrison.  In addition, a silent auction will be held, including "Iconic Pop Art" designed by girls from the youth center and special memorabilia items featuring the Beatles, Paul McCartney, U2, Star Wars, and American Astronauts. The evening is presented by Weston Buick Kia GMC.      

Tickets are just $25, which is a small price to pay for the concert experience you will have listening to the Gresham Music Academy's students and the incredible Michael Allen Harrison.  The event will be held at The Salvation Army Gresham Corps Community Center located at 473 SE 194th Ave., Portland, OR  97233.  Hors d'oeuvres are served at 6:15pm with the concert beginning at 7pm.  All proceeds will go directly to after school youth and music programs for young people in East Multnomah County.  Reserve your tickets today by calling 503.661.8972 x 207.
